No bracket required

Some irreverent thoughts before March Madness begins.

First, if you don't know a lick about college basketball but want to sound informed, you could do worse than follow this list of clichés that Quinn the Brain and I wrote last year. All of them still apply, except the one about Texas having the best starting five in the nation. (I guess that would be Florida now.)

Second, even if you don't follow college basketball, I implore you to try it today and Friday. There's something indescribable (and unmatched elsewhere in sports and life) watching last-second dramas taking place in four different locales within minutes of each other. Ideally, you should be somewhere that has multiple TVs, but the action in the next 36 hours is so guaranteed and foolproof that even CBS can't mess it up.

Third, and finally, the All-Simpsons Team:

Andy "C. Montgomery" Burns, Virginia
Mario "Superintendent" Chalmers, Kansas
Roy "Dr. Julius" Hibbert, Georgetown
Adam "Lenny" Leonard, Eastern Kentucky
David "Troy" McClure, Duke
Michael "Martin" Prince, Texas Tech
Matt "Sideshow Bob" Terwilliger, Ohio State

Coach: Al "Principal" Skinner, Boston College

Thanks to Quinn for reminding me of Chalmers. Ironically, not a single Simpson made the tournament. And I should have done this last year, when Jon "Kent" Brockman of Washington was in the field.

Nice, love the Simpson's list, especially Skinner. That suits him perfectly.

I was going to take these two days off but work was too busy. So I'll be scoreboarding it online and then hustling home. Hoping the Hoosiers can knock off a newly sober Gonzaga tonight.

It's kind of odd, but because this has been such an unpredictable year for college hoops, I think the tourney will wind up being more predictable. Still crazy, as usual, but not like last year.

One thing is guaranteed: it's always the best sporting event of the year. Have fun watching.

Sorry to take so long to comment on this. Ever since I heard about Matt Terwilliger, I'd been pondering something like this. But you executed it with grace and style. Kudos to you, sir, and kudos again.

Thanks. I wanted to do something about it last year, but completely forgot.

Matt Terwilliger had me thinking in that general direction, but Roy Hibbert made the task a moral imperative.

What about Mario "Superintendent" Chalmers for the bench?

Nice one! I completely forgot about him/them. I'll add and give you credit.
