Missed opportunity

Last Monday there was an advanced screening for Elizabeth: The Golden Age. I never picked up passes for it, so I missed it. That's too bad, because I already had a title for my review:

"I guess they couldn't call it Elizabeth II"

Ah, British royalty humor.

I thought they missed a few opportunities with the first one. I was disappointed that the film stopped just when Elizabeth's reign turned interesting -- a problem they've rectified by doing a sequel -- but that wasn't my only problem.

Though Cate Blanchett was terrific, I'd rather watch one of the old History Channel bios than watch this director tackle the subject.

At least it launched Eric Cantona's acting career, though Terry Gilliam put him to much better use in the Nike ads.

It's like all the people who wouldn't want to go see "The Madness of King George" if it were called, "The Madness of George III," 'cause they hadn't seen the first two in the series.

"The Madness of George III: Now He's REALLY Mad"

bdure: Had to look up Eric Cantona; I see he's in your line of work. His Wikipedia page includes some of his quotes, one of which is "My best moment? I have a lot of good moments but the one I prefer is when I kicked that guy."

quinn: Yeah, by the 3rd movie he was pretty much certifiable. RIP Nigel Hawthorne, what what.
