Splenda Sixteen (men)

We're down to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA men's tournament. The bottom line? Two Krugers, no Cougars.

It doesn't surprise me that there's no "next George Mason" this year; what is surprising is that the Cinderellas bowed out so soon. The experts keep saying that the games this weekend will be better as a result; here's hoping they're right.

I figured the ACC collapse could happen. When the regular season champ has an 11-5 record, it means that either everyone's good or no one is. I seemed alone in believing the latter. I think Carolina will get seriously tested by USC and (probably) Georgetown.

I did not, however, expect three SEC teams. I still figure Vanderbilt and Tennessee were beneficiaries of favorable bracket positioning. They won't get much further. Right?

The men's Sweet 16:

Midwest (St. Louis) Regional
01. Florida
08. Wisconsin
09. Oregon
16. Maryland
17. Butler
25. UNLV

East (Rutherford) Regional
02. North Carolina
07. Georgetown
10. Washington State
15. Texas
18. USC
23. Vanderbilt

South (San Antonio) Regional
03. Ohio State
06. Memphis
11. Texas A&M
14. Virginia
19. Tennessee

West (San Jose) Regional
04. Kansas
05. UCLA
12. Pittsburgh
13. Southern Illinois

Amazing. Ohio State, Stanford, and now this. Let's hope Duke avoids the upset bug.

This is all because Spouse got new running shoes, blue and black ones, throwing out his red and white ones. That portends well for Duke... and has already hurt MD (and maybe Stanford?)
