Spoonhourism

At a charity benefit Saturday night, I met Charlie Spoonhour, who retired from coaching men's college basketball after a long career at Southwest Missouri State, St. Louis, and UNLV. I introduced myself, told him I went to law school in St. Louis, and asked him if he still had the restaurant that bore his name there.

Clearly not expecting that question, he laughed and told me that he left it a long time ago. I was about to say something when he said, "Hold on, I want to talk to Pete" and left me behind.

So I looked over at the man seated by the nearest table, holding court. "Pete" was Pete Rose, so I guess that's okay.

It's like when we went to the Final Four, and we looked behind us in line and said, "Hey, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is behind us!" Then a few minutes later, KAJ was in front of us.

Cutting in line is ok, but only if you're a 7'2" All Star.
