Sneak preview ethics

Through a local radio station's online contest, I won passes to a May 2 sneak preview of Mission: Impossible III. My first thought wasn't "Oh goody" but rather "What will Thinking Fool say?"

See, earlier this month he described it as "a film you’ll boycott if you have so much as an ounce of decency." I could argue in my defense that, with a free sneak preview (and no positive feedback to the PR people), Paramount gets no support from me.

His likely rebuttal? By attending the preview, I take the place of someone else, who will likely pay to see it when it's released. (I, on the other hand, would likely wait until it's on DVD and rent it free from the library.) Indirectly, I'm still supporting Paramount... and Cruise/Wagner Productions.

As I see it, this leaves me with four options:

1. Give the passes, and the guilt, to someone else.
2. Attend, and suffer the wrath of others.
3. Attend, but walk out in loud protest once the movie starts.
4. Attend, if I promise to slash Tom Cruise's tires when in LA.

The screening is next Tuesday. I'm open to suggestions.

I think option 4 is an adequate compromise.

Actually, I really am interested to see whether the public supports Mr. Cruise's latest effort. I doubt he'll experience much of a backlash, but there have to be a few out there who will say, "No mas, Senor Tommy." I have two reasons for not wanting to see this movie: (1) Tom Cruise is crazy; (2) I HATED Mission Impossible 2.

option 5 - Attend and possibly enjoy the flick for what it is? A porcorn summer flick meant to leave your brains at home and possibly be entertained?

Might I offer:

6. Attend wearing the "Free Mother and Daughter" tee-shirts.

On the condition you also do #4.

Option 7 - attend but spend the entire movie talking loudly on the cellphone about silent birth, the Vessel, and couch jumping.

Attend! A free movie is a free movie. If it's good (ha ha), then you'll be glad you went. If it stinks, then you can discourage others from attending by blogging about the movie.

Hey! ParisDailyPhoto has a picture you don't want to see. Maybe they'll decide to keep him.
