The divination of Daria

Those with digital cable or satellite service might be pleased to learn that Noggin, a channel mostly for kids and tweeners, airs old episodes of Daria nightly. If you can remember the names of the quarterback and the cheerleader, then you'll believe me when I say that this show was ahead of its time.

55 Fiction Friday was like that cool jock in a John Hughes movie who went for the quirky chick.

A sign was posted on every kiosk and tree.

“By royal decree, all tube tops, high heels, and underwear thongs are hereby banned. Females of all ages must dress in a manner befitting ladylike behavior.”

Single women grumbled. Return policies stiffened. Many clothing chains went out of business.

Most men failed to notice any difference.

True story: I once went as Daria for Halloweeen, and no one realized that I was in costume.

Sad, I know.

My husband went as Trent. And, yes, people did get that *he* was in costume.

Your anti-high heel prejudice must stop.

PS: Next year, go as Sandi. I love Sandi, and I would so completely notice.

C: "Nobody who speaks German can possibly be bad."

TAN: Oh right, the high heels thing. I'll stand by it. On the average I'd think most women would appreciate the suggestion.

I don't think I could pull off Sandi. But Daria is, shall we say, not such a stretch.

And, yeah, Courtney. I still wear the boots I got for that costume...
